How do I detect invalid clicks

I have searched the forum for answer to this and can not find any. There are lots of questions about invalid clicks and how Google frowns upon this, which is acceptable.
However as a newbie I hate to be cut off on my first venture here and am trying to discourage all illegal clicks.
First I told my friends that I am doing it and some emailed back that they will go and click for me, I emailed back that "Please don't do me that favour as it will kill my account"
OK that sorted, now I read that I should monitor my reports, that I obviously do being a newbie I do it every hour (LOL). How can I detect unusual activity?

How Do I Report Invalid Clicks to Adsense?

I just checked my account and noticed that in between two updates, the number of clicks I received had jumped from 31 to 56, without any changes in the dollar amount, in a matter of minutes. I'm obviously troubled by this, as these are all clearly invalid clicks. 

Is this something that Google is on top of, or should I notify them of it? I obviously don't want to get into trouble for something that I have had nothing to do with. 

How do I contest suspected invalid clicks?

After two days of increased traffic to my site, I've received 9 clicks on one day and 10 clicks on the next day for a total earnings of $0.05
Here are a few considerations:
My CTR is relatively high at 1% to 3%. The articles on my blog getting traffic (via Twitter and Stumbleupon NOT Google, which is not the center of my traffic universe) are short and sweet (6-7 sentences) and readers are likely going to exit fast (especially when an ad with a really tasty looking cupcake pops up).

Reporting on pageviews for ads has been unreliable. Only the first ad shown on the page is accurate. Each of the 1 or 2 other ads on the page have about 1 or 2 page views. On the first day when I got 9 clicks the ad clicked was the second ad and therefore had fewer pageviews reported than clicks.
